Reiki and Calm: How Reiki Helps Reduce Stress and Anxiety

By Dr. Maryam Haji Rasouli · ReikiFly Academy

Modern life is full of news, speed and worry. Many of us have lived for years with tight shoulders, a busy mind and light sleep, and have come to see it as normal. Reiki, as a complementary practice alongside medicine, is one of the simplest ways back to calm.

Why does Reiki calm us?

During Reiki the body leaves the “fight or flight” state and moves into rest and repair. Breathing slows, muscles release and the mind stops jumping between past and future. Many seekers experience, in their very first sessions, a deep sleep they had been missing for a long time.

A calm that lasts

The difference between Reiki and simple rest is that, with daily practice, calm becomes a “baseline”. ReikiFly seekers have often said that in tense days they were surprised by their own calm, as if something inside them had become firmer and more deeply rooted.

A simple practice for tense nights

  • Lie down and take three slow, deep breaths
  • Place one hand on your heart and the other on your belly
  • Say inwardly: “I am safe, I am at peace”
  • For a few minutes, simply feel the warmth of your hands and let thoughts pass like clouds
  • If you are attuned to Reiki, let Reiki flow with the intention of calm

Anxiety and old fears

Sometimes anxiety is rooted in childhood fears or difficult past experiences. Holy Fire® cleansings and guided meditations help these layers to be seen and released gently. If your anxiety is severe, please also stay in touch with a doctor or psychotherapist alongside Reiki; the two paths complete each other.

To begin, Reiki Level 1 and the Self-Healing course are good choices.
